Our School
Athelstan House School is a non-selective, independent pre-preparatory school for boys and girls aged 3-7 years.
Established in 1979, our school has a successful record of guiding children gently through the first vital years of school life. Over consecutive years all Athelstan House children have won a place at the preparatory school of their parents first choice.
Set in a large Edwardian house with bright, airy rooms and a well-equipped playground there is a caring, family atmosphere. Classes are small with a maximum of 12-14 children in each.
Uniquely, every class has both a class teacher and teaching assistant, allowing an excellent teacher/pupil ratio. The individual progress of every child is carefully monitored through ongoing assessments and target setting.
We are pleased to hear our school described as ‘parent friendly’ and work in partnership with parents to achieve the best possible education for their children.
Our school motto is ‘Each Child is Special’ and at Athelstan House we create a happy, caring and stimulating learning environment where every child feels valued and can develop to their full potential.
"Athelstan House is a fantastic school providing an outstanding education in a genuinely nurturing environment. It is truly a school where every child is special."
Angela Salter
"We couldn’t have wished for a better start for our boys education. It is indeed a very special school and brings out the best in every child."
Polly & Mark Stephens
"One of the many things about Athelstan is the amount of individual attention my children have received. The quality of teaching is outstanding."
Helen Dixon
"What a gem of a school. You wish you'd gone there yourself as a child. To hear your children say "Mummy, I love school" says it all."
