About Our School
Athelstan House School is a non-selective, independent pre-preparatory school for boys and girls aged 3-7 years for Richmond Upon Thames and surrounding area.
At Athelstan House School we welcome children of all cultures, beliefs and abilities.
We attach a high priority to helping lead children towards an understanding of ‘fairness’ towards others and of being sensitive towards the feelings and needs of those around them.

Please ensure your children come to school neat and tidy, in full uniform, with blazers. Girls should wear the winter pinafore and boys, long trousers.
Whole School Assembly - Friday 16 October
To celebrate the Harvest Festival we will be collecting food for the Greenwood Centre/ local food bank and children can bring their gifts into school. The Rev Vicci Davidson of Hampton Methodist Church will be leading our school harvest festival assembly.
Thursday 1 October at 1.30pm
The workshop will comprise of three sessions and you are welcome to attend all three, or to choose the one(s) that are of most interest to you. The sessions and timings are as follows:
Special Time 1.30pm-2.00pm
Mrs Woolf will introduce you to a tried and tested method of managing children's behaviour with just ten minutes of one-to-one input each day. She will discuss the philosophy behind the method and give you some ideas about what type of activities might be successful.
Jill Collins will do a whistle stop tour of the New Maths Curriculum for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. We will discuss the key language, imagery and apparatus used to help children acquire and understand new concepts. We will also look at what key skills the children are learning in each year group.
Jill Collins will guide you through the sequence for teaching letter sounds and sounds represented by more than one letter. We will discuss the importance of a multi sensory approach and teaching the correct pronunciation to help blending for reading and segmenting for spelling.
There will be a short question and answer slot at the end of each session.

Open mornings 9.30 - 11.30am
Parents of prospective pupils are welcome to come along and are given a tour of the school by current pupils. You will have the opportunity to meet the Head, Mrs Elsa Woolf and other members of staff. It is an ideal way to experience a normal working day at school and get a feel of the nurturing, family atmosphere at Athelstan. If you would like to come along, there is no need to book and we look forward to welcoming you!
